This week, Pitchfork shared lists featuring the best albums and tracks of the decade so far. We asked Pitchfork writers and editors to share a favorite song and album that didn't make the list, along with a music highlight and their personal Top 10s or 20s. Check back for more installments of My Decade in Music So Far.
Attic Abasement: Dancing is Depressing [self-released]
Rochester songwriter Mike Reinheimer's second full-length collection of bummer jams places him as the heavy-lidded latest in a lineage of mealy-mouthed soothsayers like Bill Callahan and Silver Jews' David Berman.
Alex G: "Gnaw" [self-released]
Indie pop wunderkind Alex G finally began to turn heads this year with the release of DSU, but the Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter's first moment of creaky perfection came when he was still in high school, on this dusty and surreal tale of trauma from 2010's Race.
Musical Highlight of the Last Five Years: At just about 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning at the 2013 Indy 500, I watched Diplo play "Bugatti" to a crowd of wildly intoxicated motorsports fans. Every live music experience since stands in the shadow of that bizarre moment.
