My Decade in Music So Far: David Turner

Waka Flocka Flame: DuFlocka Rant (10 Toes Down) [self-released]

After the triumphant of Flockaveli, Waka Flocka Flame spent 2011 releasing over a half-dozen solo and collaborative mixtapes. The peak was DuFlocka Rant (10 Toes Down) a tape full of dread shaking yelling on the meanest production from Southside on the Track and Lex Luger. But now in light of the death of his partner Slim Dunkin later that year; DuFlocka Rant lovingly captured the familial nature of Waka and entire Bricksquad crew before it fell apart. 

Jose Guapo: "Guaponese" [ft. Travis Porter] [self-released]

Atlanta’s Jose Guapo alongside the Travis Porter crew on "Guaponese" instead of focusing on spending checks on luxury goods, riff and laugh about their own language devoted to spending gi-naop on the weekend. 

Musical Highlight of the Last Five Years: My last semester of college was counting the days till the exhale of graduation. But what allowed me to catch my breath at night was Chance the Rapper's “Everything’s Good (Good Ass Outro)” and its frantic shouts of "Juke Juke Juke.” It was the air needed to push forward once losing sight of the end date after months of counting down.
