Kuedo: Severant [Planet Mu]

Severant is one of the most underrated albums in recent memory, but was never far from my thoughts or my turntable since its 2011 release. Anyone with a love for Blade Runner and a taste for trap and footwork beats needs this record in their collection.

Voices From the Lake: "S.T. (VFTL Rework)" [Prologue]

Voices From the Lake's self-titled LP is deep, atmospheric minimal techno at its finest, and "S.T. (VFTL Rework)" is the soft-beating heart of that immersive album.

Musical Highlight of the Last Five Years: The last five years have been quite good to the 18-year-old version of myself. Between the various reunions, reissues, and revivals, a number of the bands and scenes that helped form my musical psyche over the years came back into the spotlight for one more go around. Sure, the anticipation and excitement was occasionally more satisfying than the music itself, but for every lackluster EP, phoned-in live show, or over-hyped album announcement, a part of me was nonetheless overjoyed to watch it all unfold in real time. It's unlikely that these blasts from our past will stop anytime soon (I mean, even Aphex Twin is back!), so instead of decrying the waves of nostalgia in my news feeds, I'm embracing any chance to revisit the music responsible for setting me on the path to where I am today.
