This week, Pitchfork shared lists featuring the best albums and tracks of the decade so far. We asked Pitchfork writers and editors to share a favorite song and album that didn't make the list, along with a music highlight and their personal Top 10s or 20s. Check back for more installments of My Decade in Music So Far.
Sleigh Bells: Treats [N.E.E.T. / Mom & Pop]
It’s so, so rare for me to hear something that sounds genuinely new and exciting, that simultaneously hits all my pleasure centers and also makes me think about sound in a different way. Four years later, this still suckerpunches me.
Patrick Wolf: "The City" [Mercury]
Still can’t believe this wasn’t a huge hit. Such a blast of euphoria, of optimism, of eternal faith in the power of love and all that cheesy (but oh so true) shit. The chorus hit especially close to home when my fiance and I moved back to NYC in 2012: “Won’t let this city destroy our love”.
Musical Highlight of the Last Five Years: Watching Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, Disclosure, Jessie Ware, Dr. Dre, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Lily Allen, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, the Roots, and so many others do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. For very personal reasons.
